About Me
I am a senior accredited counsellor in the UK adhering to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) code of ethics.
I started my journey in the counselling world in 1996 by volunteering for 4 years in a relationship counselling charity in Edinburgh where I was trained to engage clients on their first visit to the Service collecting details from them.
This taster hooked me completely, and I then decided to train fully as a counsellor. I hold a postgraduate diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (2000-2001) and I have worked since then in voluntary settings, the University sector (Universities of Wolverhampton, Edinburgh and Oxford) and also in private practice based in the Scottish Borders, outside of Edinburgh.
Currently apart from my private practice, I am also a manager in a University Counselling Service.
Over the years I have adapted my practice of person-centred counselling to meet each of my individual clients’ needs and I completed additional qualifications in 2008 to offer my counselling model online.
In my private work, I am currently offering therapy online or by phone. I am happy to offer short (4-6 weeks) or longer-term contracts (over a year) and anything in between. Sometimes clients return for several shorter 'blocks' of counselling with gaps over a year or so.
I have experience of helping clients with various personal difficulties, not limited to, but including stress and anxiety, low mood and depression, procrastination and motivation, perfectionism, trauma, relationship issues, self-esteem/confidence, bereavement and work/career difficulties.
